Psycho Weather

I had a terrible nights sleep I didn't find it too hard to get up and go running early this morning. I'm really trying to step up my training for the half marathon in September and that means running a lot more outside as well as going to the gym. I used to run outside every day but after a brief stint in hospital last year it took me a while to get back into it an I've many stuck to the treadmill, but I'm really starting to enjoy it again. I ran five miles before work today and there's something just so relaxing about running through the Meadows (our huuuge park up here in Edinburgh) in the morning sunshine....was gagging for a coffee when I was done though!!

It put me in a good mood for the rest of the day and I really enjoyed sitting at work with my coffee reading the new Vogue (Coco let me read her subscriber's copy before her - that's a real friends for you!). I love the editorial featuring Britain's bright young things; I'm not a massive fan of Pixie Geldof usually but I actually quite like her in this shoot. And it's so nice to be seeing more of Aggy again!! She is and always will be one of my faves and I was so happy p read on vogue.co.uk earlier this month that she's returning to the world of fashion. The shoot with Arizona Muse is divine too; gotta love a fellow big eyebrowed girl!!

Even though it was lovely this morning for my run (thank jeebus) the weather suddenly went crazy up here today. I'm talking thunder, lightening, torrential rain, yuck. Thankfully my boss sent me a lovely text telling me to shut up the shop and head home. So tonight the boys been through to Glasgow and I've taken a long hot bath and watched 'Last Night' starring Kiera Knightley, Guillaume Canet (dreamy!), Sam Worthington and Eva Mendes. I actually really liked, I thought it was a really honest and 'real' film, even if it did try a little bit too hard to be arty at times. It made me think a lot though, which I think is a sign of some quality.

Historical fiction and comic book violence

Had a manic panic moment this morning when I woke up at five to ten despite my alarm going off at half eight! Literally rolled out of bed, threw on a baggy v neck jumper I nabbed from my dad and my leather look leggings, brushed my teeth and ran out of the flat. Fortunately my hair is being rather well behaved at the moment thanks to this awesome serum by Aussie hair care (smells delish too!) so I didn't have to bother with it too much, and I don't wear much make up at all when it's this hot cause let's be honest, it just ends up sliding down your face.

As I was leaving I saw my cream leather ankle boots I got from Urban Outfitters last summer and slipped them on, I haven't worn them for ages but whenever I do, I'm not gonna lie, I feel pretty bad ass; there's just something about cream studded leather!

After a pretty hectic start though my day has been pretty chilled. Just been hanging out at the shop with lots of coffee, the radio and reading Forever Amber (thanks Coco!) and Kick-Ass (I'm a bit of a comic book geek).

Tuesday Blues

Oh boy, today is just one of those days. I'm writing this at work with a hangover and the strange 'not right' feeling; you know, when you just wake up with that odd, unwelcome feeling in your belly? That's me today. And I have to go running after work, although after a lengthy conversation with Coco it's very doubtful that this will happen...

Went out to Lulu last night with friends and after discovering that whiskey was too pricey I was drinking vodka all night, and let me tell you friends, vodka and I do not get along. Hence my horrible hangover.
It's absolutely sweltering in the city at the moment meaning that I'm basically living in my denim shorts, tees, and plain maxi dress. And to go out last night I really couldn't be bothered getting tarted up and opted for leather look leggings, a jersey mini dress with one of my men's v neck tees over the top and lots of my mismatched jewellery. To dress it up a little I wore my favourite, fail safe killer ankle boots and twisted my hair up and pinned it into a headband (that's right folks, my hair has finally grown enough that I can do 'up-dos', hurrah!!); all in all it was a kind of grungey-bohemian look, which is a look the I am loving for summer...

Lazy Sunday

Wow. It's been ages since either of us has blogged and we apologise; Coco and I had a chat this morning and we're both resolved to getting this blog back in action.
We have though, sadly, been separated for Summer. Coco jetted off to Italy and is soon on to Benicassim (more deets from her I'm sure) and I'm staying up in Edinburgh to work lots before my holiday in Italy at the end of July. So for the next month or so we'll both be blogging from out capital cities.
I'm working pretty much everyday at the moment, but I can't complain cause I need the money and when the sun's shining like it is nothing can put me in a bad mood! I've been spending my evenings either watching films (Transformers 3 YES), partying or hanging out and being lazy with the boy. It's so nice not to have exams or grown up stuff to worry about.
Today, thank god, has been my only day off of the week and it couldn't have been more perfect. I woke up to sunshine and Lewis and I went for breakfast at a nearby cafe. Then he went off to work and I had a lazy walk around the city in the sweltering heat. I bought some cheeky bargains for my hols - a denim mini from Gap and two plain tees from Topman (I prefer the way men's tees fit) - and then went to the gym before walking home via the meadows which was FULL of people just hanging out, having bbqs, playing games and music, it's my favorite place when the sun's shining.

So now I'm just hanging out at the flat drinking coffee and listening to music (loving the Black Keys at the mo). Ooh and I'm bidding on ebay on this dreamy leather jacket that I need in my
life....I have a feeling I wont win thouhg....my ebay skills seem to be somewhat lacking...

Bye Edinburgh, hello London!

Haven't blogged in so long! The last month has been full of exams and working at the sweetie shop, but both me and boo are all done now! I'm currently sitting in the Starbucks at haymarket station in Edinburgh, getting ready to board a train to London to spend the weekend with my best friend from home, Charlotte. I'm so excited to see her! We're also going to stay with her aunt and uncle in lancashire. Their humble home just so happens to be Hornby castle. Excited much?!
When I'm in london I'm planning meeting my friends Rob and Lauren at the Hayward gallery to see the new Tracy Emin exhibition, can't wait to see them as it feels like it's been ages. Going to meet the family on Friday too for lunch in Kensington. Yay!
It will only be a short trip but I'm so excited!
Love, Coco xxx

Summertime...and the living is easy

Finished my first exam today! Celebrated with a cocktail in the sun with my marketing buddies. Very glad to be done with one out of three!

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine.

Socks and Sandals: Yay or Neigh?

Every time I've opened a gossip magazine for the past few months I seem to have been confronted with a pap shot of Fearne Cotton rocking the latest socks and sandals look. Even in her recent High Summer collection for Very.co.uk's promo pics (above), Fearne is seen showing her retro side, giving an air of teen 70s glamor to the shoot.

I say latest, but this look has been around for a while, but on a very different end of the fashion spectrum...
Yes ladies and gentlemen: dads. Could it be that Ms. Cotton is now going so far as to take style advice from
those who have embarrassed us on endless beach holidays, museum visits and summer time picnics? Well, with the hoards of other celebrities who have also taken a shine to the trend taken into account, this surely can't  be the case, can it?

The trend seems to have stemmed from the geek chic debacle that happened last spring, and I think this is my favorite thing to have come out of it. Not only do the socks really help to accentuate pretty shoes, but they give any outfit that extra girly touch before hitting the shops. Wear frilly or lacy socks with tea dresses for a vintage look, or thick woollies with high wooden clunky heels for more of a fashionista feel. Also, if you're going mini and you're a little afraid of showing too much flesh, they can give you that tiny bit of extra coverage to help you feel a little less naked, a la Kelly Osbourne:

I even tried this trend out myself this weekend. Although the rest of the country seems to have been bathed in sun this Easter weekend, Scotland wasn't so lucky. On Saturday night I was desperate to wear my new suede sandals from Topshop, but against the black of my tights they where unnoticeable. So, I pulled on some light blue crocheted socks and...
I really enjoyed wearing this look, although I was a little dubious at first, and they even ended up getting a few compliments throughout the night. The blue really helped to accentuate the gold of the buckle too.
These ones where from Topshop, and cost £5, also available in peach and yellow.

I think everyone should at least consider this look: go on, sock it to 'em. (Sorry.)

Topshop loves...

Last night I did a bit of late night shopping on Topshop.com for a few pieces which I've lusted over for a while but haven't got round to buying, due to exams etc. Here's what I chose:
Jeans, £38

Shirt, £32
Scalloped Shorts, £38
Jersey Tee, £22

I love the feel of a crisp white shirt, and this one is perfect with jeans for an easy summer look, with Ray bans  and possibly leopard print accessories (I'm working on the leopard print Internacionale wedges).  The shorts are so light weight, making them perfect for any last minute summer city breaks where the ability to over pack is not an option.Same with the white jersey tee: the navy blue was my winter staple, and the white shall be my summer. Great for layering up with a light cardi and denim shorts. I can't wait for this little beauty of a package to arrive..
Happy Easter all!

Summers here?

Have I just completely jinxed it by writing that title?

Anyways, it is sooooo beautiful in the city right now. Coco got back last night and its soooo lovely to have her back, going to grab a skinny iced latte later and see her at work. But first I'ma go to the gym, that is if my new kit arrives. I am a firm believer that you work out better if you feel like you look good, call me superficial, I DON'T CARE, works for me.

I went on sweatshop.co.uk  and ordered these Adidas Response Running tights because proper tights are so much more flattering than high street leggings - don't you hate it when you're leggings get over stretched and start to go all see through? I like to balance out the fitted bottom with an oversized tee so I also got this Nike Boyfriend v-neck.

I'm thinking of running a half marathon later this year; running a marathon is something I want to achieve in the near future but I think I need to text the water first and do a half...which is still twice what I run if I'm really going for it (and this occurs very rarely) gahhhh. scared much?

Airport Chic

White tee
499 DKK - musthaves.dk

Tibi pleated skirt
280 GBP - net-a-porter.com

Alexander McQueen ballet flat
340 EUR - montaignemarket.com

Proenza Schouler satchel handbag
$1,595 - editnewyork.com

TopShop enamel ring
$20 - topshop.com

Bindya wool scarve
$47 - theoutnet.com

$15 - girlprops.com

Having just arrived home from a four day mini break to Budapest, I couldn't help but notice how important my airport attire was to me. Staying chic but keeping warm in changing climates, carrying all my documents and running to boarding gates whilst maintaining my composure where all issues to be addressed, and like any frequent flyer, I seem to have built myself an airport checklist which I try to adhere to every time I travel, be it by plane, train or car.
My first essential is multiple layers. If you end up sitting on a runway in a delayed plane it can get extremely hot, but no doubt when you eventually get going you'll be sat next to someone who likes to have their air con on full blast. A scarf can add a splash of colour to any outfit but also provide a covering for bare arms and be stored relatively easily in hand luggage. I love this one from theoutnet.com.
A maxi skirt is also a perfect antidote to the hot/cold problem, allowing you space to move when warm but extra fabric to wrap up in when chilly. The bold yellow is totally right for the bold colour trend, as seen in the Jill Sander spring 2011 collection.
Secondly: flat shoes. You know how it goes: you get distracted by Kurt Geiger in the waiting lounge/there's further reductions on duty free/you get seduced by a group of tipsy stags in the airport pub, and you end up missing your flight call. This calls for a serious sprint to your gate and the last thing you want to do is ruin your outfit by removing your Choo's. Never fear, McQueen is here! I adore these skull detail flats simply because they are comfy and beautiful, and can also be whipped of quickly for airport security. The 'mold to your sole' rubber also ensures they will stay put when you're minding the gap as well. I want want want a pair please.
Lastly, a large colourful satchel for one last bold colour injection to the outfit, with space for my passport, Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, a book, laptop, headphones, phone, ipod, sunglasses, purse, travel documents...why is it that whenever I travel my bag seems to need at least five extra compartments?! The satchel provides the perfect antidote to this problem and the across body strap also means I can keep my hands free when pushing trolleys or pulling suitcases (leaving extra space for vital duty free goodies).
Accessory wise, I always try to keep it to a minimum as you know you're probs going to have to remove it through security. I'd go for a large index finger ring (love this Topshop one, a bargain at £8.50), and a classic chunky belt to clinch in the waist. I've gone for leopard print to create a stylish clash with the patterned scarf. Sunglasses can also help tie in your look with a certain era, and these heptagon sunnies give that summery seventies vibe, along with flowing locks and a chilled out attitude. Perfection!

Happy travelling!

i-D and ck one

Has anyone else got this months i-D magazine yet?

I loooove i-D - its probably one of my favorite publications - and this months is a brilliant issue. I chose the Anja Rubik cover because I adore her and think she looks fucking amazing with her delicate piercings; her shoot inside is ace too.

But the featurette I loved reading was the behind the scenes look into the new ck one ad campaign. I love how passionate the company is about youth, gender, sexuality and fun and how they all fit together and are accepted in our generation rather than we have to make a stand about everything like when ck one was first established. The whole point of ck one originally was that it was unisex and blurring the line between male and female, but in todays society androgyny is the norm almost; the boys can look like girls, the girls can look like boys and you can sleep with who you fancy, regardless of their sex. If you gon the website you can browse through all of the videos with the, quite frankly, fabulous cast and even upload your own.  I just think its a very intelligent and modern concept without being too wank.
