MAC-a-licious!

So Boo and I did something very exciting today: we signed for our dream flat next year!! Both us and our other flatmate's couldn't have been more excited, so after a celebratory drink (a little bit earlier than is usually allowed) I decided to take myself off to the MAC counter at Harvey Nics for a victory shop.
I don't know what, but, for me, there is something about MAC. Whenever I crack open a new FluidLine Eyeliner or a brand new lipstick, I'm always able to justify it as money well spent as soon as I apply said item. The products all seem to last forever - I only usually buy a new foundation from MAC around every three months, and considering I've been known to reapply up to three times a day, that's quite an achievement.
Today's visit was simply a trip to do just this - although I couldn't help but stop my the eye shadow section for a sneeky peek. I recently bought 'Atlantic Blue' which looks fab against my red hair, and I'm also tempted by 'Humid', a beautiful deep green shimmer which would look great with my Urban Outfitters leopard print maxi. But alas, having just paid the deposit for the new flat, my bank account wouldn't agree, so I skulked off over to the counter with my bottle of StudioFix.
I am a very, very loyal customer to MAC. I don't know why and how it started, but when I was about fifteen, one of my favorite Saturday morning trips would be to get the train into London and go to the MAC store just off Carnaby Street. I loved trying out new colours and styles and have worked myself up quite a collection over the years. But having recently dyed my hair from blonde to red, I'm having to re-think a lot of my make up styles. I've even had to change the colour of red lipstick I use, going from my old favorite Lady Danger to the more recently introduced Ruby Woo.
Another thing I love about MAC is it's constant introducing of new collections. Last year we had Viva Glam, fronted by Lady GaGa and Cindy Lauper, and this year we have the Wonder Woman collection with its quirky, noticeable packaging, and Peacocky, a collection of gorgeous blues, purples and greens.
If you, like me, are addicted to expensive make up but can't get over the guilt, I propose this: make-up is something which you wear everyday. It is applied to the place where you are most critically studied. It should be of the best quality, because your skin is your most vital organ and it's protection is of the up most importance.
Also, it's really, really pretty.

Take a look for yourself:

The Return Of The Wide Leg

For the last few years, trousers have been all about the skinny. And although still in fashion, finally a fully fledged alternative has come full circle from the seventies to be reintroduced to the catwalks this season. Yes folks, curvy girls everywhere are rejoicing: the wide legged trouser is back.
Personally, I couldn't be happier. Although the maxi skirt is also making a comeback this season, there is something ultimately more casual in a trouser. And once again, the highstreet has come up trumps, having taken inspiration from the likes of Chloe on the Autumn catwalks last year and creating an amazing selection of printed and pleated versions, usually for around £30-£45.
I'd pair a plain set with huge chunky statement jewelery (like the 'Stag Skull' necklace from Galibardy.com, below) or a large turquoise ring (like the one from Urban outfitters, below) to keep that seventies vibe which is so lusted after this season. As for a printed pair, I'd go for a plain cami, vest top or even a three quarter length loose fitted shirt to avoid looking too busy. Try not to add full length sleeves or you risk looking a little too covered up. A nice detail such as pussy bow blouse, a leather belt or large, gold buttons will add that something extra to the outfit if you feel it needs it.

While I'm on the subject of seventies fashion, I must mention Miss Selfridge. They are doing a great job of replicating some serious seventies styles with similar fabrics and fab prints, so if the style suits you they are a must. My favorite thing about their current collection is the gorgeous burnt caramel suede colour which runs through it, which they're calling 'rust'. The website doesn't do the clothes justice so pop in store if you want to have a lust over it.
Peace out folks, Coco xxx

August Sander

Today was gorgeous and was one of those days when everything is so quiet and still and it's lovely just because it's a Sunday. There was literally no activity in the flat and me and Lewis decided to go to the Modern Art gallery to the August Sander exhibition.

I've studied the photographer in my History of Art classes at University and the exhibition was really thought provoking, moving and, at times, laugh out loud funny. Its crazy that the photos were so strong yet you forget he didn't have a digital camera and all the photoshopping we have access to today...it almost makes you question the talent of some contemporary photographers.

My Dad sent me the pics of where I'm holidaying today; soooooo excited! Sooooo I'm off to the gym - got a bikini to think of...

Twist and Shout

It's such a beautiful day in the city of Edinburgh today!! I've been walking around in the sunshine drinking coffee and charity shopping (managed to find a copy of Walt Whitman poetry which made me happy).

Tonight Coco and I are going to 'Twist and Shout', a club night in Edinburgh thats plays to the soundtrack of the fifties and sixties. So to get in the mood, and because I'm deviously procrastinating from actually doing work, god forbid!, here's a little bit of nostalgia....

the final pic is of the last retro night coco and I were at waaaaaay back when we were freshers, we're the two on the right. seems like we were just little girls back then...

Coco's Study Outfit

Coco's Study Outfit
Coco's Study Outfit by cocoandboo featuring see by chloe handbags

I HAVE to be cosy whilst studying, because I always leave my work till the last minute, so my outfit has to cater to the fact that I'm not allowed to move for a long time. That's why these leggings and snood are perfect for me - exactly the right thing to snuggle into. For me, a pretty ring such as this Alexander McQueen is essential, least of all to keep me entertained as I look down at my fingers mid-type. And what girl could carry her Macbook in anything less than a Chloe satchel...well..a girl can dream..

Boo's Study Outfit by cocoandboo featuring leather leggings
I say this would be my study outfit but this is basically just my everyday wear...I literally live in leggings, skinny panks or short skirts and baggy jumpers and tees. I'm on the hunt for some new wet look leather style leggings and I looooooove this little grey sweater. And aren't the Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony boots just divine!? I need all of these in my life right now please!!

Also...how funny is it how different my choices are from Coco's. S'why we go together so well. We're both cooped up doing essays at the moment but we took a short break to polyvore our nuts out. I needed some relief from being down about the fact that I was offered the opportunity to cover a LFW party tomorrow night for a magazine but couldn't make it down. sadface.

hair envy.

coco must be sick of me by now because i think at least once everyday i grab my short messy hair in my hands and moan "GROW HAIR GROW!" I've had short hair for about...four years now (?) and now i'm determined to grow it to my collarbone at least. I constantly find myself looking through magazines at the mo seeing this whole messy long hair thing and i'm like "WANT!"
see what i mean...
